ST. MARY SCHOOL’S MARDI GRAS: What’s it all about?

So you’ve begun to hear about Mardi Gras and you may be wondering about the details.  Here’s the scoop!

 

WHAT:  Mardi Gras is St. Mary School’s annual primary fundraising event and it’s a blast!  It is a fun adult only evening including both a silent and verbal Auction filled with all kinds of wonderful donated items from local businesses and families.  Our school has earned as much as $60,000 through the efforts of our families and the community. That’s a huge portion of our budget and enables us to offer quality education, materials and programs to our students.  Participation is essential to making Mardi Gras a success!

 

There will be a cash bar and lots of hot hors d’oeuvres, snacks, and desserts!  

 

WHO:  Everyone is welcome!  This event is open to the public and we encourage attendance not only by St. Mary School families but neighbors, friends and relatives, members of our business community, and anyone who is ready for a fun evening out!

 

WHERE:  Tyler-Van Dusen at Alma College.  Conveniently located on Superior St.     Signs will be posted to direct you to the event.  Van Dusen is spacious enough for our silent and verbal auction items, seating, refreshment tables, raffles, games, music and a dance floor.  You’re sure to enjoy the atmosphere. . . New Orleans comes to Alma!

 

WHEN:  Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 6 pm to 11 pm approximately.  Arrive at 6 o’clock to check out the silent auction items, enjoy a snack and greet your friends and neighbors.  Closing time is flexible J.  After the auctions, check out begins to pay for and collect items purchased.  Please stay after the auctions are complete & visit with friends, listen to music and take to the dance floor.

 

COST:  Pre-RegistrationSeniors (55 & up) $20 per person, Regular $25 per personPreschool parents get in FREE!  You are encouraged to pre-pay and register by stopping in the School or Parish office.  You may buy tickets at the door the night of the event for $5 more.

 

WHAT TO WEAR:   Guests arrive in anything from jeans to their favorite “going out” clothes.  Many dress as they would for work or church.  It’s entirely up to you!  It is not a formal evening but many do like to get dressed up.

 

WALK THROUGH:  You’ll be greeted by volunteers who will direct you to the check-in table and assign you a “paddle number” which you’ll use for silent and verbal auction items.  Participation in either type of auction is entirely optional; and you can bid in one auction type without bidding in the other.

 

When the silent auctions have closed, you may check out – but it’s fun to stay for the verbal auction as friends, family and neighbors frantically try to outbid one another :).  Our auctioneers are entertaining and you may just get caught up in the excitement.

AUCTION ITEMS:   Class art projects created specifically for Mardi Gras, collectibles, gift certificates, “experiences,” and many other affordable items donated by parish and school families as well as local businesses. New to auctions?  There will be many volunteers who are happy to show you how it works

 

Raffles and games of chance more your style?   We’ve got those, too – you’re sure to have fun playing along.
